Valentine's Day Recap

Well, I don't know about you but it was a CRAZY (and long) week! We had a reading night at school (until 7:30), parent teacher conferences (until 6:00) and then Valentine's Day party on Friday. The kiddos were super excited and we had a fun day! Here is a little of what we did!
On Friday, we passed out our Valentines.

We did this SUPER cute activity from Curriculum Castle. They loved it!.

We ended our day with a fun party. Here is the picture I used for Scrapbooks this year.

I'm super excited because we are expecting snow tonight and tomorrow. Like significant snow. We had so much last year I was SICK of it, but I've been DYING for a good snow this year! I think it's coming!!!!! Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

Winter Games Freebie

Wow! Our Valentines Day was CRAZY!!! At 10:15 we find out we are having an early release at 12:30. We are right in the middle of Valentine centers and we have to immediately stop and go to lunch then be prepared to have our Valentines Day party at 11:45. EEK!!! We did it, but mercy me! It was a hot mess. The district was being cautious as we were right on the border line of rain or ice....we just got rain. Lots of it, but just rain. Thank goodness!!!
My hubby surprised me with flowers. I was super surprised and it melted my heart even more that he also sent 1 flower to our 4 year old at daycare. Say it with me...Awwww! She was so excited. Here are my beautiful flowers!

This week we are doing an Olympic "Winter Games" theme. I can't wait to show my kiddos examples of some of the sports. Curling is my favorite. I wanted some review practice with syllables for my pocket chart center, so I made this quick center for extra practice. It is a freebie for you! Just click on the picture below.

What We've Been Doing and a Freebie!

I'll tell ya what we've been doing...washing our hands!!! Like CRAZY!!!! I had a couple of days last week where I had like 5 kids out leaving me with only 14! I think it mostly the stomach bug, not the flu but I don't want either! Just wanted to give you a quick update on what we've been doing lately!

We started word families. I saw this on pinterest last year so I gave it a whirl. This is my kiddos choosing a word family, writing each word and drawing a picture to match.

I don't know about you but rhyming is something they totally get - or they don't. Like. At. All. Whew!!! We are working hard on it though!

Remember me posting about these boxes? Well, we are doing them again this year in our Word Play center. They love this activity from Cara Carroll! (I put a sticker on the first letter of each word. My kiddos needed that this year.)

We are also fixing my broken sentences! :(

And practicing those rhyming words! Whew!

These are from my Lovely Literacy Centers unit! You can find it, my Lovely Math Centers or get the bundle in my store!

And now for the freebie! Don't forget to grab my Conversation Heart Freebie!

Superbowl Sale

I am so excited tomorrow to watch the Superbowl game eat all of the yummy appetizers! Ha! I mean really...who goes to parties to actually watch the game? Not this chicka! I don't even care about the commercials! Me and the little one are going to a kid friendly Superbowl Party (no hubbies) with lots of yummy food!

One thing I will be doing before I go to the party is scoop up lots of great goodies at the TPT sale! That's right! A Superbowl Sale!!! I will be throwing a 20% off sale in my store. That, along with the 10% from TPT...you can save 28%!!!

Here is what you can grab in my store for a great deal! I just finished my Lovely Literacy and Math Centers! This unit is jam packed with math and literacy centers aligned with Common Core!

If you just teach one of the content areas, I have also split those up and you can purchase them separately!

I have also uploaded my new Circus Fun unit. Note: This was previously my Dr. Seuss unit. Due to copyright issues, I had to change the clipart. If you have already purchased that unit, you may go back and download the circus theme! It is the same unit however, I did not change the content.

I hope everyone a great Superbowl Sunday! Get your game shopping on!

Hurry and Go to your local dollar tree

Okay! I LOVE me some Dollar Tree. We have a pretty nice one in our town and I visit it...weekly. I have to tell you about the cutest Valentines that I have been getting for my kiddos every year for about 6 years now. Here is the package:
062
They are 4 for $1. When you open them up they look like this:
063
The kiddos them pound the package one (or a few) good times with their fists. And look what ya get:
065
Isn’t that the cutest little balloon you’ve ever seen? It also comes with a little gold rope to put in the top. The kids LOVE these!!!! They get soooo excited watching it blow up!
I would recommend buying a few extra….some don’t work correctly. Also, you don’t want them to bust them completely open…they will leave. I’ve only had that happen once in 6 years. They go fast, so make sure you go soon!
Also, I went ahead a bought a few of these:
061
Remember this post? I used these little heart boxes for these activities from Cara Caroll and Babbling Abby. I knew I would find another use for them so I grabbed a few more. These went fast last year so while your getting your Valentines….grab these!

You don't want to miss out! Having said that...our 1st giveaway(s) begin on Wednesday. I will post the giveaway and winners all in one post. We are just selecting participants via random.org and no extra entries are needed so don't fret that you are missing out. We have FABULOUS sponsors and giveaways.

While you are here...I need your help. I am having TROUBLE with a capital T (okay...all caps) with my kiddos and b's and d's. I mean they ALL get them backwards. They read them backwards, write them backwords, make them backwards. You name it...it is backwards. We began the year really sorting them. I even teach them to make a d you  say c (and make the c) then d (and draw the line to make it a c to a d). I have NO idea what is going on, but it is KILLING me! Also, I am looking for cute Valentine crafts and ideas. I'm just at a loss! So...what do you do to get those b's and d's straight and what are you doing for Valentine's day?

Valentine Exchange Update and a Freebie

Well, it just hit me that is the 25th. Well, not really. The 25th is payday and I start waiting for that every 26th so I am WELL AWARE of when the 25th is. But it did just hit me that parent/teacher conferences are at my school in uh...a week from tomorrow (EEK!) and that Valentine's Day is right around the corner. Seriously? How did that happen. I am just now pulling Valentine's things and I usually have that done way before now. One of my kiddos favorite things to do is graph...with candy preferably, so I created this little freebie. The students sort the candy hearts by color, graph, then answer the questions! Feel free to grab yours in my Teachers Notebook Store!

In Valentine's Exchange news, I am working on getting all sponsors emailed this week, so be looking! We were overwhelmed with the response and you will be happy to know there are almost 3 giveaways every day February 1-14! Yup. I knew you would be excited! So sponsors, be looking for an email. I think Caitlin got all of the partners emailed yesterday so you can get to shopping and crafting!

A tiny dream come true

So guess where I went last night? Give up? Flash mob practice. Yep... I'm gonna be in a flash mob! :) A high school friend of ours was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer about 2 months ago. He has started chemo and is such a inspiration. We are having a benefit for him this weekend at a local bar  establishment. All proceeds go to help him in this journey to get well. One thing he has always wanted to do was be part of a flash mob and we are making it happen! How awesome is that? A friend of ours owns a local dance studio. She created it. My friend who the benefit is for starts it and we all join in! I've ALWAYS wanted to be a part of a flash mob. My favorite episode of Modern Family is this one:

I crack up everytime I see it. So..I know it is totally not related to teaching, but I just wanted to let ya'll know. I got a root canal done this morning (so much fun...2 1/2 hours with my mouth pried open) and the rest of the afternoon have been working on our Sponsor list for Be My Valentine Exchange.

Ya'll are gonna be SO excited!!!! We have SO many sponsors and giveaways. Just a reminder...tomorrow is the deadline to be a sponsor.
