Fall Break, An Update, and More

Well, to say I had a relaxing fall break would be a lie. It was nothing but relaxing, but it was FUN! We went to Disney...our first time as a family! Blast! It was hot and we packed it all in. We got home Friday to the chilly weather, but I am loving it. Fall is my favorite season by far.
The week before we left, we did our apple unit. We had a fun filled apple day on Friday. (Unfortunately, my camera with the pictures is at school!)

This week we are starting our pumpkin unit! Lots of fun to be had! One thing we will definitely be starting is our Count of Halloween unit! I have updated this with SUPER cute clipart!

This is a Halloween themed counting book you can use as a craftivity book or a coloring book. The kiddos LOVE to work on this all month then sing it to the parents at the Halloween party! Want this? Head on over to my Facebook page where I am having a giveaway that ends tonight at 9 CST.

Garnet Hill Backpack Giveaway

I am SO excited about this giveaway. I LOVE Garnet Hill. They have great quality items! My daughter has 4 of their bathing suits and they have lasted for 2 years now and still look great! When I was trying to figure out which backpack to get my little one for Kindergarten, I knew that I wanted a Garnet Hill backpack! They are SUPER adorable and have some great patterns to choose from! I was very fortunate to get a backpack and lunchbox to review AND give one away to you!
My daughter was so excited to get the backpack that she picked out and try it on! We chose the Backpack Jr. which is recommended for ages 4 and up. Since she is 5 and petite for her age....I figured that was the right backpack to go with. She chose the Pony Up pattern and loves it! (So do I!)

I love the front strap to help keep it on her shoulders! (I blocked out her name on purpose!)

This backpack jr. is the perfect size for her!

A regular size folder fits perfect as well as a school box and there is room for more. It definitely isn't big enough for a big 3 ring binder or planner, but I know she won't have those things in Kindergarten.

Perfect place for her water bottle.

She also got a lunchbox!!!

Love how it clips to her backpack.

Here is a side view so you can see how the Backpack Jr. is perfect for her size!!!

We also got a regular Backpack so you could see how it fits on her. Garnet Hill recommends that the regular backpack for students ages 7+ and I would say that would be perfect. I would probably get it for her next year when she is entering 1st grade!

Here are all of the adorable designs for the Backpack Jr. There are even more for the regular backpack! I'm so excited that Garnet Hill is allowing me to give away a backpack or a backpack jr. to one of my lucky readers!!!!

It's easy to win! Just enter below in the rafflecopter! The giveaway will run until Monday evening! I will choose 1 winner on Tuesday, August 5th!

Well Hello!

Hi. My name is Sarah and I have failed you as a blogger. Yup. It has been OVER a month since I blogged. Sorry. My summer has FLOWN by and well...I have less than 2 weeks until I start back full time. With all of those stinking snow days and us having to go until the very end of May...they tacked our PD days to the beginning of the year! Boo! I know!
I've had a wonderful summer. I looked back at my summer bucket list to see how I have done! I've not done great. Most importantly I have done #1. Lilly and I have had a WONDERFUL summer together and enjoyed every bit of it. I have worked and finished SOME TPT units (keep reading) and I went on my vacation. That's about it!
I have been back to school shopping. (More on that at a later date.) One thing I did get done was create a new Vertical Behavior Chart and update my other 2. I made each section larger (to allow for more clips) and updated the behavior logs to include the dates for the 2014-2015 year. I was having trouble with my kiddos knowing which object to color (since we missed so many days here and there.) Here is my new Chalkboard Vertical Behavior Chart.

As with all of my behavior clip charts, it contains the actual chart to place in your classroom, a parent letter, note to send home if student reaches parent contact (editable), behavior logs for August-June, and class list (editable) to record student behavior each day.

I also updated my Polka Dot Chart.

And Chevron.

These are one of my best sellers and work great in the classroom! Want to win one? I will give one lucky reader their choice of Behavior Chart. Just enter below! Quick. It ends tonight!

Dr. Seuss fun and a GREAT GIVEAWAY!

Well, our week full of Dr. Seuss fun turned into 2 days! We got ICE and SNOW last Sunday and were out Monday-Wednesday. On Friday we had GOOD KINDER FUN! (Like the old days.) After reading Bartholomew And The Oobleck....we made Oobleck!!! So fun!

The sounds that came from those sweet mouths when they stuck their hands in were the best!

They each got to take some home!

We also made Green Eggs and Ham of course. We mixed the yellow eggs with blue food coloring and ate up!

Before we ate, we predicted if we would like them or not, then after we ate them we graphed our results. (I forgot the picture of the graph). This response was one of my favorites. She is one of me ESL students. LOVE!

We also made this ADORABLE Lorax picture I found on pinterest!

http://funhandprintart.blogspot.com/2013/03/dr-seusss-handprint-lorax-3d-art.html

We haven't added our eyes or mustaches yet because it was crazy and we had to wait for them to dry. That was an independent center (except for the handprint). I LOVED the different ways they made their truffula trees!

At last, I took their pictures for their scrapbooks. Seriously? SO cute!

Okay, I know. You are really just here for the giveaway! One of my colleagues just posted these ADORABLE Sight Word Tri-Folds! I DIE over them!!!!

Math centers and a Giveaway

So last year I began literacy centers. I had been doing a few different centers (like writing, phonics, reading, etc) with 5-6 kids at each station. After blogging and being inspired from so many (cough, cough....DeeDee Wills), I decided to jump into literacy centers after fall break. That was this time last year so I've been doing those for a year now. I LOVE them. I have 9 different literacy centers including Meet with Me. You can read more about that here.

Well, now that I feel like that is running like a well oiled trained, I decided to jump into math stations. I have 12 different math stations. I only do math stations 4 days a week so they visit each station 1 time. Having said that.....station 1 and 7 are the same and 6 and 12 are the same so that they visit each stations twice. There are 2 reasons for this. Our district mandates that we follow our Math in Focus curriculum and the workbooks that go with it. It isn't feasible for the kiddos to just go their once because if they visit it on Wednesday, I may have not taught the content until Thursday. Also, the district mandates that we complete so many Compass Odyssey episodes a week as well so 6 and 12 are computers.

Here are my math center stations for the week in my Peek at the Week:

Here is what my the chart looks like for students to determine where they go:

I have matching signs hanging throughout the room showing where to complete that center. Also at that center are boxes with the matching number that contains all items needed to complete that center. The students do SO well knowing how to form a straight line, find their number, go to their station, and complete it. They get 20 minutes at each station. Here are a few of our stations this week:

Linking from smallest to largest

Counting pumpkins and creating tens frames

First page of our Count of Halloween page.

Number word scramble from my Numbers 1-10 unit.

Okay...this was last week, but look how hard they are working together trying to figure out how to link numbers in order from 1-20. Precious. I love them.

Time Me

Students complete Compass Odyssey math lessons correlated to their MAP scores so it is COMPLETELY differentiated. LOVE!

Here is one of the IWB lessons that comes with our Math program. Um, hello. I didn't know about them last year. They are FREE! Geez!

Matching to figure out which has more and how many more. So great!

This was a lesson on matching numbers to objects to cards. Love!

To say I am THRILLED with how my math centers are going is an understatement. They are so hands on, excited, and engaged. When I say "Let's begin centers" they all go "YES!!!" Win, win for both of us! :) How has your week been. Do you do math centers?

Now, to the giveaway. I know...that is what you really wanted to know about! I have FINALLY finished my Number 11-20 unit that is the sequel to my best seller Number Fun 1-10.

I will give 2 away tomorrow night. Just leave a comment telling me what your favorite subject to teach is and why. I'll pick 2 randomly tomorrow! Good luck!
