New Year, New Look

I am finally getting around to updating some of my older units. One of my goals this year has been to update all of my RTI units. Now......don't get excited! :) I've only done the letter Aa. I'm slowly but surely working on them. I'm almost embarrassed at how sad my first cover looked. I feel like I have really grown as a TPT seller and teacher. Check out the before and after!

I have used these in my classroom for 3 years now. At this point, we have learned all letters and sounds in my classroom and are working on short word families. As we all know, that won't work for everybody. I have one or two who need to slowly work through the alphabet. I am able to pull these units for classroom use, homework, or just extra review. I also have these units bundled. I hope to get these all done in the next month or so, but for now Aa is ready to go! :)

Doesn't it just make you happy when your things get a makeover? They make me kind-of giddy! Have a great week!

How do you teach the alphabet?

I am curious Kinder teachers. How do you teach the alphabet? Do you do a letter a week? A letter a day? Our district still does a letter a week...well 2 a week. We have to introduce all letters and sounds by Christmas. I typically do 1 letter a week until October then double up the rest. We teach in the order of our reading series...Mm, Aa, Ss, Pp, Tt, etc. This works well for most of the kiddos. Some need MUCH more time and some know all of their letters when they enter K. For those kiddos, there is a lot of differentiating. They begin spunding out CVC words early on. I created a new unit to help with teaching the letters. My Alphabet Beginning Sounds unit (original title, huh?) is great to use while teaching all of the letters. I love that there are 5 beginning sound cards for each letter of the alphabet (except x...we do ending sound). This will allow me to use this in many different ways. There are also 2 handouts for each letter. Students can draw the 5 objects they found that begin with the letter they are focusing on (or for higher order thinking...draw 5 objects of their own). The other handout allows students to color objects that begin with the letter they are learning (and for higher order thinking....write the beginning sound of the objects that they are not learning this week). I hope you can use this in your classroom! Just click on the preview picture below to go to my store!

I am almost ready to announce the winner of my giveaway!! We had a small problem with the first winner chosen. I am just waiting to hear back from the 2nd winner! Hopefully that will be tonight!

Igloos for sale?

Okay, so I am working on an alphabet unit and I am searching for objects that begin with each letter of the alphabet. How is that I have taught for 10 years in Kindergarten and I still have trouble thinking of objects that begin with each letter? I use this website a lot to give me ideas incase you get brain toots (I don't like the other word...you know the "F word".
Anywho, as I am looking up "I" word I tried igloo and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for so I tried igloos. I got my picture, but am cracking up at the related keywords as well:

Really, are igloos for sale in real estate? I'm sorry, I thought that was really funny! Wonder what they go for these days?

Alphabet Songs

I know I have mentioned it here before, but I love me some Have Fun Teaching!!! I have been using their videos since a teaching partner found them in September. The kiddos love them and I love that they get introduced to thet letter and the sound in a repetative manner!

The website has TONS of videos you can purchase. They have alphabet videos as well as sight word videos that rock too! You can also get all of the alphabet songs from youtube as well, except they do have advertisements. Do you want to show these cute alphabet songs videos in your classroom without the ads?? Well...you are in luck! Have Fun Teaching is having a giveaway and it is SO easy to win! All you have to do is blog about their giveaway and they are yours! How simple is that? :)

Teaching the Alphabet

I'm so excited. Learning with Mrs. Parker asked if anyone would be interested in posting about a letter of the alphabet so that we will all have resources to use in our classroom when teaching the ABC's. I signed up for letter Tt and I'm so excited! I cannot wait until we get this started and we can all share. Keep your eyes out for this awesome opportunity for us to get resources! One of the requirements in to make up a freebie to share. I've don't have a TPT store or have never uploaded to Google Documents but I'll figure it out! Can't wait! :)
