Are You Ready for Kindergarten??

I recently had the opportunity to review a new product from Lakeshore Learning (one of my FAVORITE companies). They recently released a whole series of ARE YOU READY? games. These are designed like a game show, but for play at home (or school).

I had the opportunity to review the Are You Ready For Kindergarten? game since my daughter will be headed to kindergarten next year.

Here are the pieces that are included: a gameboard, Math and Language Arts cards, Bonus Cards, Cash and Coupons!

She was SO excited to play. Like begged for days to open it!

You place 1 card of each value in the gameboard to set it up.

The player choses a card.

They answer the question on the card.

And earn money for getting it correct. (Her favorite part.)

There is also a check list for students to check which problems they got correct. Later you can go to the internet, enter their data, and it will give you printables and links to products that can help your child work on those skills.

All in all, this game was fun! My little girl is headed to kindergarten in the fall and she enjoyed it. Most questions she ACED so it is definitely for preschool students headed to kindergarten, although it would be appropriate for my lower entering K students to use even in December. Here was a more challenging question. Not that it is challenging, but the wording was new to her.

This game was perfect for a single user. I also think it could be used in small groups as well. I would laminate the money and make copies of the checklist cards before using in the classroom. I really wish I had the 1st grade game to use in my classroom at the end of the year The kiddos would love it!

It made me smile!

Well, I am TIRED. As in BEAT. How on earth do I forget how tiring the 1st couple of days of school are??? I've been doing this for 12 years now. You would think I could remember that? We've had fun but I will be back with that soon! Now, on to the blog title.

I was contact last month by Smilemakers asking if I would like a product from their company to review. Have you ever heard of them????

I'll be honest. I had, but I thought they only did dental thing or novelty toys. WRONG! Oh was I wrong. They have lots of goodies on their website.
It took me a few days to go through their website and choose a product, but I finally did. I asked to review the Hot Dots Jr. Phonics Fun Pack with Ace the Talking Dog.

I had been seeing it at my local teacher store but was hesitant to spend the $$$ on it. (Retails for $39.99 on their website.) Well, it is worth the money! Here is what I received:

It comes with cards to practice letters, sounds, short vowels, long vowels, blends, and digraphs.  I tested it out on my 4 year old because (at the time) school has not started yet. She loved it! We just worked on the letter sounds one.

This little Ace lights up green if you get it right and says lots of cute phrases.

Her favorite is the one when it vibrates in your hands. Look at that face!

Sorry for the blurry pic, but it turns red if you get it wrong and says another phrase.

I am super excited about using this in my literacy centers next year. Because of all of the different sets of cards, I should be able to use it almost all year! Now I just gotta get another pen! They make a really cute cat girl one I might need to snag!

If you haven't checked out Smilemakers, I definitely would! They shipped quickly and also sent tons of coupons to use all year long! Thanks Smilemakers!

Note: I was given product for free to review. The opinions given are my honest opinions about the product and the company!

The Price is Right

Please tell me y'all watched The Price is Right as a child? Please tell me I'm not the only one that is that old. I loved that show! Still do. I remember watching it when I was home on maternity leave. Good memories!!! Imagine my excitement when Lakeshore Learning contacted me about doing a review on their Plinko game? Uh, yes!!!!

I whipped that puppy out in reading groups today and they LOVED it! The games comes with nice wooden chips with great pictures. The students drop a chip at the top and it makes it way down the board. The chip will land in one of 3 spots at the bottom: Say the Beginning Sound, Say a Rhyming Word, or Say the Ending Sound. This game was perfect for my higher reading group. They are sounding out CVC words and can identify the ending sound of words as well as rhyming words. Look at how much fun they had!

I promise your kiddos will love this game. My other kiddos were dying to try it. Give them a few months and they will all be ready! This game is great for K and early 1. Lakeshore also has this game for other grade levels as well!

Do you want to get your own PLINKO game. Well, Lakeshore just made it a little easier. They are offering a 25%  promo code for my readers. Just click below to go there.

Best Pencil Sharpener Ever and a winner

Well congrats to Ash from Pixy Stix and Teacher Tricks! She correctly guess what day Thursday is for kindergarten at my school and won my Number Fun 1-10 unit! Her guess...PAJAMA DAY!!! Whoop! Whoop! The 4th letter we learn in the letter Pp and we always have pajama day. We read the 3 Little Pigs and have a Pp party at the end of day with Pp food - purple punch, pringles, pixie sticks, pickles, potato chips, pretzels, popsicles, pepperoni...You name it!

Okay...now on to the real business! I received this pencil sharpener the summer from Classroom Friendly Supplies.

I have to admit I was a little skeptical because well, I just like my electric sharpener. Actually I have a love/hate relationship with it but not anymore. I hate it...compared to this puppy. It is awesome and oh.so. quiet. Let me tell you who REALLY loves it...my wonderful assistant:

She LOVES this thing and should know...she is the one who sharpens pencils. Look at these beauties after she sharpened them.

They sharpen perfect EVERY time and the whole class doesn't know you are sharpening because it so quiet! Here is a pencil getting ready to get sharpened.

My assistant NEVER uses the new electric sharpener we got....this is her new BFF! I'm telling you that if you buy one of these, you won't regret it! Just click here to grab yours!
